    Five For Five - BARS

    Five questions for five flicks

    Featured artist - BARS

BARS is a graffiti writer from Sydney. He started painting in 2003 and is a member of TNS CREW. He paints his own version of a fat public style developed to paint fast. His focus is mainly on tracksides and panels which he paints on the regular. We caught up to find out a bit more about him and asked for his 5 favourite flicks.

    1. What got you into graffiti?

The graffiti at the skate parks always peeked my interested from a young age. It wasn't till later, from the age of about 16 that me and Kins saw Redue and Kes (Panic) painting a wall at TAFE, that was when we decided this is something we wanted to try.
Although, this was what got us interested, Style Wars is what really opened my eyes to the world of Graffiti, especially trains. Graffiti opened up a whole new world for me, travelling, meeting writers and new people. Some of the writers I have met through my years of painting I still regard as my best mates.

    3. Looks like you've done a bit of travelling around Europe, could you tell us about a memorable mission from abroad?

Just being in Europe is awesome but add painting, beers and your 2 closest mates in the mix and your gonna have a good time, i'd have to say the most memorable one was in Stockholm painting in this hanger with some really good people was a fun experience and its just a really nice city

    4. Do you have a good chase story?

the one that would stand out the most would of been in 2004 from memory , we where at a yard up in the mountains and there were 14 of us painting a 4 car, I remember approaching the train and painting the first car and having to close the doors, within 10 minutes a train pulls in real slow with the high beams on I was 100% sure it had seen me so I ran up to the others and told them what had happened, then all of a sudden the doors ripped open with GTF and police jumping out and running around the front and back of the train screaming freeze! It was pretty crazy there where people everywhere haha.

I remember running into the bush not having a clue where I was or where any of the people I had gone with were but I bumped into them and was relieved none of them had got caught, getting out of there was harder then getting in having to run past the entrance to the yard with torches everywhere and people still screaming, then running a kilometer or so down the road wasn't that great but we got out of there all good a couple of scratches and out of breath, i'm pretty sure only 1 guy got caught that night which sucks.

    5. What motivates you to keep painting?

My main motivation would come from React, Over and Kinsy. Also theTNS boys are always motivating me seeing the stuff they produce is really nice and clean, Jieskie is also motivation always pushing me not to be so lazy haha, also just having fun thats what its about in my opinion.
